The Hossegor surf report: an essential element for all surfers
Have you planned to surf in Hossegor in the Landes?
Before setting off on your surfboard, don’t forget to refer to the Hossegor surf report. Here are the key predictions to consider:
- The size of the swell which gives you an idea of the waves that await you. These are offshore buoys that measure the size of the swell. Attention: the reports generally indicate the primary swell coming from the main depression and the secondary swell coming from another depression.
- The orientation of the swell which indicates the direction in which the swell reaches the spot. A swell directed in the same direction as the spot will have impact! The period which refers to the time (in seconds) elapsed between two waves. The shorter this period is (period not exceeding 8 seconds), the closer the waves are. Conversely, the longer the period is said to be (greater than 12 seconds), the more time there is between the waves.
- The wind: this other indicator is also to be considered during a surf session in Hossegor. A distinction must be made between “off-shore” wind and “on-shore” wind. The first is “land” while the second is “sea”. The preferred one? The first which comes to create tubes and dig the waves unlike the second which tends to break the waves.
- The tide: before your surf session in Hossegor near Seignosse and Capbreton, you must also analyze the spot you have chosen in the Landes and find out about the tide of the selected spot.
